Your Thyroid and Hashimoto Disease

Hashimoto’s Disease – Also called chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, was first described by te Japanese physician, Hashimoto, in 1912. It is is an autoimmune thyroid disorder, characterized by the production of antibodies in response to thyroid antigens (antibody producing) and the replacement of normal thyroid structures with lymphocytes and lymphoid germinal centers. This disease shows a marked hereditary pattern but it is 20 times more common in women than in men . It occurs most frequently between 30 and 50 years of age but may arise in young children. The body’s immune system seems to play a role in the production of the thyroid inflammation and tissue destruction that occurs in chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis. Substances known as autoantibodies, made by certain white blood cells called lymphocytes, appear in the blood in this condition. It is most likely that these antibodies have the capacity to damage thyroid tissue. When enough tissue has been destroyed, the thyroid hormone production falls below normal, and symptoms of hypothyroidism appear.

The thyroid, typically enlarged, pale yellow, and lumpy on the surface, shows dense lymphocytic infiltration, and the remaining thyroid tissue frequently contains small empty follicles. The goiter (gradual painless enlargement of the thyroid gland) is usually asymptomatic (no symptoms), but sometimes patients complain of dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing) and a feeling of local pressure. Thryroiditis is the general term used to describe three different disorders in which the thyroid becomes inflamed. Most commonly, the inflammation takes the form of a chronic, progressive disease known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis or Hashimoto’s disease. This condition may be so mild that it may go unnoticed for many years, but eventually it may destroy so much thyroid tissue that hypothroidism develops.

The diagnosis of Hashimoto’s disease is based on finding thyroid antibodies in the blood. The level of these often increases as the disease progresses. In its very early stages, the thyroid inflammation probably will be so mild that at first nothing will appear to be wrong. The first indication of a problem may be a goiter – a gradual painless enlargement of the thyroid gland. During this period, the thyroid gland is becoming infiltrated with lymphocytes, which start gradual thyroid destruction and scarring that result in subsequent thyroid failure. If the function of the thyroid decreases to the point that the gland can no longer make a normal amount of thyroid hormone, symptoms of hypothyroidism appear, and the patient may begin to look and feel sick for the first time. In the late stages when all the thyroid gland has been destroyed, the level of the auto-antibodies may fall to low or undetectable levels. At this point, the destruction of the thyroid may be so extensive that very little normal thyroid tissue remains.

The basic cause of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is often not treated. There is no safe and reliable way of modifying the faulty immunological system that mistakenly believes that your thyroid cells are "foreign." If the patient had a temporary phase of Hashitoxicosis (Hashimoto’s &#43 toxic &#43 condition), a beta-blocker and/or antithyroid medication, such as carbimazole, may be given for a short time. If the gland becomes uncomfortably painful, a short course of corticosteroids may be used in subacute viral thyroiditis. In general, the treatment is the management of the consequences of thyroid failure, although a goiter is sometimes prevented from becoming larger or is reduced in size by giving thyroxine.

A great resource site regarding this topic is: http://iodine-therapy.com

The essential step is the prevention of hypothyroidism when this is imminent or the correction of hypothyroidism when this has developed. The best treatment is replacement therapy with thyroxine. Occasionally, surgery is required, particularly if there is any possibility that the goiter is due to cancer and not to Hashimoto’s disease. This difficulty may arise when the thyroid feels very hard or is enlarged unevenly, but usually a needle biopsy will resolve this diagnostic difficulty. It is of most importance for one’s thyroid to be checked, especially if there are others in the family that has a known thyroid condition. ~ Ms.CiCi ~ http://www.cici-online.com

Does your thyroid medications make you feel more sick? Here are some remedies you can do when thyroid medicines don’t help.

Why Thyroid Meds Don’t Work

So, you go to the doctor and spill your bucket of symptoms-fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, etc. If you happened upon an alert doctor, you’ll get a thyroid test. And you’ll celebrate that help is on the way.

Well, maybe. While doctors love blood tests-and disdain symptoms-thyroid tests aren’t reliable. Doctors know this, but they go by the book.

But perhaps the test actually says you have a punk thyroid. The doctor prescribes Synthroid, levothyroxin or some other T4 med, assuring you it will fix things. And you celebrate that help is here.

Well, maybe not. We need to talk about this.

The body’s natural thyroid hormone has five parts: T4, tyrosine with four parts iodine, T3, tyrosine with three parts iodine, T2, tyrosine with two parts iodine, T1, tyrosine with one part iodine and calcitonin, which helps protect our bones (in a round about way).

T3 is where all the action is. Our bodies have to convert T4 to T3 before it can get in the game. Recent research says T2 is also quite active. Nobody knows what T1 does.

Doctors could prescribe Armour Thyroid, the natural medicine that includes all parts of the thyroid hormone and has a long, long history of successful use, but they don’t.

Most doctors prescribe an artificial T4 medicine, such as Synthroid or levothyroxin. They’re taught to distrust Armour, although their doubts have no basis in fact. It may be one of the greatest medical frauds in all history.

And, while it’s bad enough 80% of the thyroid hormone’s parts are missing, artificial T4 doesn’t match natural T4. Some bodies react very badly, while others just let it pass through.

Truth to tell, our bodies don’t like wanna-be meds. You may remember the Woman’s Health Initiative exposé of the artificial estrogen and progesterone in hormone replacement therapy. Instead of doing the good doctors said it would, HRT created havoc.

But you can’t patent the natural stuff, and the money’s in the patent, so we get anything artificial Big Pharma can come up with-regardless of whether it works or whether it does dastardly things to us.

Artificial thyroid meds fail us. We can’t convert artificial T4 to natural T3, which is what we need to feel alive, We can faithfully take our meds and still feel like death struck by a brick.

However, while T4 meds don’t do you any good, they satisfy the blood tests. If you complain about still not feeling good, doctors wave the test results in your face and insist you’re fine. And they don’t want to hear about symptoms, thank you very much.

But wait! There’s more! While artificial T4 meds don’t help your thyroid, they do eat your bones. As doctors reduce your medication despite ongoing symptoms, they quote studies saying overdoses of thyroid meds cause osteoporosis.

Not so fast, Chester. All the studies used Synthroid. Synthroid-and probably any artificial T4 med-causes osteoporosis. Overdoses have nothing to do with it. Before the days of artificial T4, when doctors prescribed Armour, the average dose was twice what it is now, and osteoporosis still didn’t rear its ugly head.

What we have then are tests that don’t tell the story, meds that don’t fix the problem and doctors who don’t really care. You were wondering why things weren’t going well?

The moral to this sad tale? We have to take responsibility for our own health and push back when necessary.

Thyroid Supplements For Poor Thyroid Health

For the millions of people suffering from Hypothyroidism, a sluggish thyroid gland can cause a lack of energy, motivation, low metabolism and trouble losing weight. Thyroid health supplements offer a boost to the thyroid’s natural hormone production which brings a person back to normal when other options are not working.

The thyroid’s normal function is to convert, at a cellular level, a hormone called T4 into an active substance called T3. T3 is what allows the thyroid to have its broad effect on the body’s metabolism which, in turn stabilizes just about every cell system to keep your system running smoothly.

When a low amount of T3 is produced, your whole body is affected. You may become sluggish, and losing weight can be even more difficult than normal.

To understand what may cause a faulty thyroid, several things should be considered. Stress, poor diet, lifestyle choices, pollution and a myriad of other activities can all contribute to the thyroid working more slowly. These are all areas where a person has direct control over, and they should be well maintained for a healthy thyroid and system.

Thyroid Health Supplements

Modern science has found nutrients that aid the natural production of T3 hormone in the thyroids. These nutrients have a positive effect on the structure and formation of the thyroid gland. Herbal thyroid pills help keep the thyroids strong, producing enough hormone to keep the body in balance. In addition, they also have no side effects unlike risky pharmaceutical drugs.

Common symptoms reported to become alleviated by thyroid health supplements include low metabolism, stress levels, trouble losing weight, constipation, moodiness, low insulin production, dry skin, headaches and low energy.

New science has tested several herbs to see if they have a positive effect on the thyroid gland. There are now supplements that include ingredients like L-tyrosine, which boosts the metabolism, Piper Longum Extract, which tunes up the thyroid to natural produce a healthy supply of its hormone, Guglipid, which lowers cholesterol, and Adrenal Bovine Powder, which helps reduce stress.

Together, these herbs and proper nutrition and lifestyle habits can ensure a healthy thyroid and freedom from distressful Hypothyroidism symptoms.

Most thyroid nodules are non-cancerous but a biopsy of some sort can be done to tell for sure. Learn about the criteria for thyroid nodule doppler on the article below.

Causes of Thyroid Nodules

The thyroid gland consists of two lobes that look similar to the wings of a butterfly. The thyroid is able to absorb iodine from food you consume. It is the only gland in your body that can do this. Your thyroid takes the iodine and uses it to produce two main hormones, triiodothyronine also known as T3 and thyroxine known as T4. These are the hormones that regulate the rate that your body uses carbohydrates and lipids or fats. The thyroid also helps control body temperature, heart rate, as well as the creation of proteins. Calcitonin, yet another hormone the thyroid manufactures, is a hormone that regulates calcium level in the blood.

Though we have no definitive knowledge as to the cause of most nodules and their onset, it has been found that there a certain factor that are associated with the onset. The list includes:

- Low amount of iodine in the diet

- Hashimoto’s disease, associated with hypothyroidism

- Genetic defect in the receptors responsible for releasing TSH or thyroid-stimulating hormone

- Radiation treatments that were undergone at an early age such as in child hood to the head or neck area

Various Nodule Types

There are different types of nodules that may develop in the thyroid gland:

Colloid nodule – The type of nodule is noncancerous or benign. It manifests itself as an overgrowth of normal thyroid tissue. It is possible to have one colloid nodule or several. Though it is possible for these nodules to become larger in size, they do not spread to other parts of the body and are contained only in they thyroid gland.

Follicular adenoma – This nodule type is also noncancerous or benign.

Thyroid cyst – These can be benign or malignant depending. These are fluid-filled areas of the thyroid glands that can differ in size. They can measure from less than 1/3 of an inch in diameter to over one 1 inch. Thyroid cysts are usually filled with fluid. Some thyroid cysts have solid components. These are called complex cysts. Fluid-filled cysts are generally benign. Complex cysts can at times be malignant.

Inflammatory nodule – This nodule type may at times develop resulting from chronic inflammation of the thyroid. This condition is called thyroiditis. There is a rare form of thyroiditis called subacute thyroiditis, which is accompanied by severe pain within the thyroid gland. There are other types of thyroiditis that are painless and sometimes happen after pregnancy. This is called postpartum thyroiditis.

Thyroid cancer – There is only a small chance that nodules are cancerous if a physician determines that you have any. If you have a family history of thyroid cancer or any endocrine cancer, you will be at higher risk. Also, if you are a man younger than 30 years of age or older than 60 years of age, with a history of head or neck radiation, you would also be at risk. Cancerous nodules are generally large in size and firm to the touch often causing neck discomfort and/or pain.

Multinodular goiter – "Goiter" refers to any enlargement in the thyroid gland. The appearance of several nodules can lead to a goiter. This is referred to as multinodular goiter. This condition causes tightness in the throat accompanied by difficulty in swallowing and breathing.

Hyperfunctioning thyroid nodule (toxic adenoma, toxic multinodular goiter, Plummer’s disease) – TSH is released by the pituitary gland, which regulates the production of thyroid hormones. Hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules that become larger and actually produce thyroid hormones separate from the influence of TSH or thyroid-stimulating hormone. Hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules create a situation where there are high blood levels of thyroxine accompanied by low or even nonexistent levels of TSH. A genetic defect of TSH receptors may be a reason for overactivity of nodules.

The Risk Factors

Thyroid nodules are quite common. In fact, up to 50% of people may have one. The exact cause of thyroid nodules is still unknown although there are some factors that seem to increase the risk of having one. This includes:

Heredity – Family history such as the existence of nodules in parents or in siblings tends to put an individual at a higher risk of developing nodules.

Age – The chances of developing thyroid nodules grow higher as you increase in age. Changes may happen in your thyroid as part of the aging process.

Gender – Statistically, women are more likely to develop thyroid nodules when compared to men.

Exposure to radiation – In the 1940s and 50s, many persons were often treated with radiation for conditions that were noncancerous such as in the case of acne or enlarged tonsils. If you, as a child, experience this type of treatment or experienced any therapy employing the use of radiation to your neck or head for the conditions mentioned above, then you have a higher risk of developing thyroid nodules. You would also be at a higher risk if you were exposed to radioactive particles that became airborne during any atomic weapons testing or if you were exposed to radiation resulting from a nuclear power plant accident.

Specific thyroid conditions – If you’ve had thyroiditis or a chronic inflammation of the thyroid gland, this would also put you at higher risk.

What Are The Complications?

In general, thyroid nodules are non-cancerous or benign, but at times, they can lead to serious problems. Larger nodules or a number of nodules appearing together can lead to multinodular goiter. This condition can interfere with swallowing or breathing. In can become even more of a serious problem when these nodules or goiter produces thyroid hormone, which can lead to hyperthyroidism.

Along with assorted symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, muscle fatigue, intolerance to heat, and high anxiety, hyperthyroidism can lead to other complications:

Heart-related complications – This type of complication includes a rapid heartbeat, heart rhythm disorder and even congestive heart failure. Congestive heart failure is the condition of the heart being no longer strong enough to circulate blood throughout the body.

Osteoporosis – This is when your bones become weak and brittle due to a lack of calcium. The overall health of bones depends to a certain extent on the amount of calcium and minerals found in them. An excess of thyroid hormone or hyperthyroidism, can disrupt the incorporation of calcium into the bones. In the situation where a patient develops hyperthyroidism, the bones are the first to display the sign or symptoms of the disorder before anything else. This is the case with postmenopausal women who are in the group of individuals with a high risk of developing osteoporosis.

Thyrotoxic crisis – This is the term used to describe the sudden and possibly life threatening intensify of the above signs and symptoms. This requires immediate medical care should this occur.

Thyroid problems are affecting as many as 59 million Americans today. Learn about the various symptoms of bad thyroid and the proper treatment.

Thyroid Symptoms – Do You Have Symptoms of Thyroid Problems?

Thyroid symptoms afflict at least 10 million persons in the USA alone. Symptoms of thyroid problems often go undiagnosed, making it difficult to really know how many people are suffering from thyroid symptoms. Thyroid gland functions include the vital role of regulating the body’s rate of metabolism.

Women are much more likely than men to have thyroid dysfunction — as many as 10-20% of women and 1-2% of men may have symptoms of thyroid problems. One type of thyroid dysfunction is the condition called hypothyroidism, also referred to as low thyroid or underactive thyroid. When thyroid function is too sluggish, one effect is that the body’s metabolism slows down more than it should. Much less common are thyroid symptoms caused by hyperthyroidism or an overactive thyroid.

When the metabolism slows down due to underactive thyroid function, the result can be symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain and depression. And other symptoms may be experienced, often seemingly unrelated. Hypothyroidism or low thyroid symptoms of thyroid problems include:

• Fatigue and weakness
• Depression
• Weight gain
• Low basal temperature, cold intolerance, cold hands and feet
• Dry and coarse skin
• Heavy menstrual periods
• Insomnia
• High cholesterol
• Sluggish bowels, constipation
• Poor memory, forgetfulness, dementia
• Nervousness and tremors
• Immune system problems
• Hair loss

Having thyroid symptoms is related to hormone levels and hormone imbalance. Three related hormones for a woman are estrogen, thyroid hormone and progesterone. Understanding the interplay between these three hormones helps one better understand how to approach treating thyroid symptoms.

In the best-seller What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About Menopause, Harvard-trained family physician Dr. John R. Lee explains his results in treating women having symptoms of thyroid problems. In a broad sense, estrogen makes calories from food to be stored as fat. Thyroid hormone makes calories from food to be converted into energy. Excess estrogen interferes with normal thyroid hormone function. Progesterone helps "oppose" and keep undesirable side effects of excess estrogen from happening. Progesterone helps the body use fat for energy, and when progesterone is present in healthy levels, the thyroid functions more as it is supposed to. Dr. Lee found a clear pattern in his patients with a progesterone deficiency — their underactive thyroid symptoms lessened when natural progesterone supplementation was done and hormone balance was achieved.

Read more about hormone imbalance, how progesterone deficiency happens and how to have balanced hormones for better health. There is an online women’s hormone health test you can take to find out more about your health, with physician-based recommendations based on your answers.

The diagnosis of thyroid diseases involves measuring the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood. So what is a normal thyroid range? Find out the answer from this article.

Thyroid Problems Symptoms and Natural Treatments

Thyroid problems are largely a result of an imbalance in your thyroid levels. Any kind of thyroid problem, regardless of cause, leads to a weight problem, and it’s usually drastic – you could find that you are gaining weight, losing it rapidly or maybe you just can’t get rid of it no matter how hard you try! This can then give rise to other weight-related diseases. The ensuing problems are bad whether you suffer from an under-active thyroid an overactive thyroid.

The American Thyroid Association has a publication issued in the interests of people who need thyroid support. This is great considering that over 7 million women in America are sufferers and would dearly love to get some kind of thyroid support.

So, what are the symptoms of thyroid problems? An under-active thyroid (hypothyroidism) means that your metabolism isn’t really up to scratch and results in the pounds piling on. An overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) means your metabolism is speeded up and you begin to lose weight. Well, this might seem great for those who want to get that model-like figure real fast but it comes with its own set of problems. Hyperthyroidism can get so bad sufferers could end up with a lot of weakness and even bulging of the eyes. A bad case could mean hospitalization.

Hypothyroidism works in the opposite way. The metabolism slows down to such an extent that you keep putting on weight. This too could leave you weak and could result in serious complication so it must be treated. Without adequate thyroid support, many problems could be caused by fluoride poisoning in the water.

So what options are there for those who need thyroid support? Well, marine phytoplankton has come to be known as thyroid health food. The electrolytes and nutrients marine phytoplankton possesses are what the human body needs to control metabolic rate. Another natural supplement for thyroid support showing positive results in studies is the juice of the go-ji or lyceum berry from Asia. The fruit is seen as an immunomodulator – it can balance abnormal responses in the body and is seen by many as a natural treatment for thyroid problems.

Are there any vitamins that can be take for thyroid support? Well, kelp is a combination of vitamins, minerals and supplements and has been said to work well in the treatment of thyroid problems. If you are on thyroid medication, be sure to take a good multivitamin with minerals and a few grams of Vitamin C everyday. Vitamin A is also very essential for the treatment of hypothyroidism as enough of it must be present in the body to enable the gland to absorb enough iodine. Adding Vitamin A to your diet could not only prevent thyroid problems, it could also help alleviate the symptoms if you suffer from hypothyroidism. Make sure your food is rich in copper, which means that you will have to include thyroid foods like yeast, offal, nuts, raisins, and eggs. Just a little care and you could minimize your problems and offer thyroid support.

There are a variety of thyroid function tests that may be performed in order to assess how well a person’s thyroid gland is functioning rather than just the standard blood test for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) that is usually performed.

Has Your Thyroid Been Properly Checked – Tips For Thyroid Testing

Normal Thyroid Reference Ranges may vary depending upon the laboratory used! What, you may say? Isn’t there one “standard” for thyroid testing? No, and that’s part of the problem.

What Is A Normal Thyroid Hormone Level? « Plant Poisons And Rotten Stuff

Because the pituitary gland is not making enough TSH, the TSH levels may appear “normal” or low. The T4 levels may also appear to be “normal” or low.

Do You Have Normal Thyroid Levels?

Underactive Thyroid Problems? Natural Remedies Can Help

One of the most obvious side effects of an underactive thyroid is weight gain. If you have been putting on weight which is hard to lose, you may be suffering from hypothyroidism. An underactive thyroid can make you feel sleepy, sluggish and tired. Low thyroid levels may also cause moodiness, depression, intolerance to cold, memory lapses, thinning hair and constipation. There are several natural safe supplements which can be taken to assist even those with a slightly sluggish thyroid and they can safely be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments.

Yoga Treatments can give a very effective boost to an underactive thyroid. These exercises are known as ‘pranayam’ which are simple breathing techniques to stimulate the thyroid gland and they can safely be practiced by anyone. Combine other exercises with yoga. Start with simple short walks and increase the intensity as your body gets used to this new regime. As your metabolism is slow, results will likewise be slow, but perseverance is the key.

Your Diet can also be tweaked to boost hypothyroidism naturally. Increase your intake of carrots, spinach, oily fish such as salmon, olive oil, avocados, almonds and sunflower seeds. Avoid simple carbohydrates including white bread, baked goods and canned fruit juices. Eating complex foods such as brown rice and wholegrain bread, which are harder for the body to break down, is important.

Drink plenty of water as this actually increases the metabolism. Keep away from coffee and other high caffeinated drinks and replace with water. If necessary try spring water which is lightly flavored with a hint of natural fruit.

Iodine is a great supplement and the lack of it can be the main cause of any thyroid related disorder. All the thyroid hormones which are essential for a properly functioning metabolism are derivatives of the mineral iodine. Use cooking salt which has iodine in it. Seaweed such as kelp is a good natural source of iodine too. Iodine requires the presence of Vitamin E for proper assimilation.

Other Vitamins such as Vitamins A and C and the B complex vitamins are required for the body to manufacture thyroid hormones. They should be used as dietary supplements, especially when an underactive thyroid is suspected. Look for a natural thyroid-supporting formula which includes these all-natural ingredients, and together with the changes outlined above, shake off that underactive thyroid and start to live normally again.

Natural Thyroid Supplement

A thyroid is a glad that is necessary in hormone production, and one that is under active can create many problems, and natural remedy treatments are an option. In the event a thyroid is not properly producing hormones, the corresponding symptoms may not immediately be associated with hypothyroidism. Typical symptoms of a hormonal imbalance in the body may include trouble sleeping, weariness or feelings of exhaustion, feeling slow or sluggish, difficulty focusing, and weight gain. Luckily, many of these symptoms can be relieved through natural remedies.

As the thyroid gland is vital to hormonal production, without proper levels, the body slows down and becomes sluggish in performance. In fact, the thyroid produces a hormone (THS) which is the hormone responsible for the body’s metabolism and function for many organs. THS hormone regulates the speed and efficiency of the body’s organs. Hypothyroidism is a dysfunction of the thyroid gland when proper levels of hormones are not produced, resulting in plummeting energy levels. However, hormonal imbalances can be screened for and if you are experiencing any of the aforementioned systems, have your thyroid hormone levels evaluated. In fact, these difficulties can be improved and even prevented through herbal supplements and other natural remedies.

To compensate for an imbalance in hormone levels cause by an under-active thyroid, there are many options available to select from. People react differently to the various types of natural therapies, while some have positive reactions, others may not, so it is important to discuss possible options with your doctor. An individual’s sensitive to a supplement, medication, or foods varies greatly, often closely associated to gender, race, age, life-style, allergens, genetics, and other such factors.

Coconut Oil is one popular remedy for an under-active thyroid, and is very helpful to fight weight gain caused by hormonal imbalances. It helps people through bolstering their energy levels, allowing them to maintain an active lifestyle through their fitness routines. Adding 3 to 5 tablespoons of coconut oil to your daily diet can really help an under-active thyroid, by boosting energy levels, helping maintain weight, and balancing a person’s hormone levels. However, weight loss does require some effort through a fitness routine, but the coconut oil can give you that extra boost you need to make it through your day, counteracting the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Adding coconut oil to your daily regime can help restore your body’s balance as if you had a properly functioning thyroid gland.

However, it should be mentioned that a possible cause of poorly functioning thyroid may result from unhealthy eating habits. The lack of energy from hypothyroidism is really detrimental to a person’s overall well-being. Without energy, people just lack the motivation to exercise, even though they know that they ought to do so. A poor fitness routine coupled with poor eating habits will undoubtedly led to weight gain. However, this vicious cycle can be broken by addressing the direct cause, an under-active thyroid gland. By maintaining a good diet, you can help ensure a properly functioning thyroid. Coconut oil is effective in that is is a medium-chain fatty acid that helps bolster the body’s metabolism and energy levels, thereby supporting weight loss. For those with low energy hormonal levels, using coconut oil is a natural treatment that can help your body support a health thyroid. The amount of physical activity a person engages in is also essential. Maintaining a proper metabolism and hormonal levels are irrevocably essential to a person’s health, and particularly so when dealing with an under-active thyroid. Be aware, that not everyone experiences the same difficulties from an under-active thyroid. As such, coconut oil will not relieve all of the symptoms, but can certainly help alleviate some of the larger complications.

Remember that there is a large assortment of natural remedies to counteract the effects of a poorly functioning thyroid. Adding coconut oil to your diet may give you that extra energy you need to help your overall well-being, and support your thyroid gland.

Coconut Oil – An effective natural remedy for difficulties caused by thyroid issues. Be sure to consult your physician if you suspect any problems with your thyroid before beginning any treatment.

Women are tested for infertility problems and hypothyroidism at their first evaluation because these diseases are capable to create critical problems with ovulation as well as menstruation irregularities. Sometimes with infertility and hypothyroidism there is not sufficient enough time between menstruation and ovulation for conception to take place.

When there is a normal menstruation cycle, there is about thirteen to fifteen days for a fertilized egg to be nurtured. If there is too short of a phase it can appear like there is infertility, but the fact is there is fertilization but a miscarriage will result when menstruation begins.

There are treatments that can help hypothyroidism and infertility problems and you should seek a professional for their opinion.

If you are not pregnant then the main goal targeted by the treatment program for both sexes is to supply the sufficient amount of thyroid substance inside the body in order to effectively increase the function of body. Medical evaluation may be required for you for a couple of month before you obtain the correct dose of thyroid replacement.

If you seek the proper medical attention, you can help with the problems associated with your menstrual cycle or sperm count. If you manage to get pregnant and have hypothyroidism infertility problems, there are further treatments available.

The thyroid function can get affected by the Changes in estrogen levels and this is considered as the one of the vital reason for why the treatment is absolutely necessary. You may have to change the doses during pregnancy and it may result a hormonal fluctuation period for up to 6 weeks.

Because of this, you will want to go to your first prenatal checkup no earlier than six weeks, but no longer than twelve. This way you can have more of an accurate reading of how the dosage needs to be adjusted. Hypothyroidism and infertility doesn’t have to be a problem.

Thyroid Disease – Causes, Symptoms and Treatments

The ‘thyroid’ is a small gland situated below the ‘Adam’s apple’ in the neck. It releases two hormones; the thyroxine (T4) and the triodothyroxine (T3). These hormones increase the amount of oxygen that the body uses and incites your cells to generate new proteins. By regulating the release of the hormones, the thyroid establishes the metabolism rate of almost all your body’s organs.

Problems mainly occur when the thyroid gland tends to become either ‘underactive’ (leading to hypothyroidism) or ‘overactive’ (leading to hyperthyroidism). Even cancer may grow in the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism takes place due to shriveling of the thyroid gland. Conversely, Hyperthyroidism takes place due to the over activity of the thyroid gland.

Causes of Thyroid disease

Thyroid, be it hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, can be due to several diverse causes. Some of them are:

-Inadequate production of the ‘thyroid hormone’ causes hypothyroidism.

-An Inborn error or defect in the thyroid gland and a deficiency of pituitary causes Hypothyroidism.

-An excessive amount of the ‘thyroid hormone’ results in Hyperthyroidism.

-Emotional or physical stress and heredity may result in hyperthyroidism too.

-Improper feeding habits over a very long period of time along with some oppressive medical treatment is however the most common cause.

-Faulty style of living causes thyroid

Symptoms of Thyroid disease

-Hyperthyroidism’ and ‘Hypothyroidism’ have a number of signs and symptoms. Some of them have been mentioned below:

-Hypothyroidism causes a person to slow down his movements, gain weight, often get constipated and become vulnerable to cold.

-Severe backache, stiffness in the muscles and joints, dry thickened hair, puffiness on the face, and relatively slow pulse are some of the other symptoms.

-Hyperthyroidism causes a person to sweat excessively frequently, become really weak, overactive, nervous, sensitive to heat and underweight.

-Overactive and enlarged heart, bulged eyes, irregular and rapid pulse rate, slight tremor felt in the fingers, palpitation of the heart and passing increased quantity of urine are some other symptoms.

Treatment of Thyroid disease

Both the types of thyroid can be treated in several different ways. Apart from the usual medicinal treatments, there are a few adaptations and alterations that you will have to bring about in your lifestyle and eating habits, in order to improve the condition of thyroid. Some of the most commonly opted and effective treatments are:

-A rational diet, Cleansing of the system, adequate amount of rest and relaxation is very important. Fresh fruit juices must be consumed on a regular basis for around 5 days. Then, in the next 3 days have more of fruits and milk and then eventually get onto a healthy and balanced diet.

-The patient must rest a full day in bed, each and every week for first two months of the treatment.

-Physical exercises and yoga can be practiced only after symptoms collapse.

-Coffee and tea, greasy and fleshy foods, alcohol, condiments, sugar and white flour must be avoided.

-Physical exertion and emotionally being upset should be avoided.

All these changes will definitely bring about positive results in treating thyroid!

In this condition, the thyroid gland usually is renegade, which means it has lost the ability to respond to the normal control by the pituitary gland via TSH.
